Sinkhole is directed by Kim Ji-hoon, who previously directed The Tower (2012), Sector 7 (2011), May 18 (2007), and Mokpo the Harbor (2004).

Director Kim Ji-hoon said Sinkhole was present because of the thought of the conditions that would occur if the floor suddenly collapsed, as well as the things that could happen underground after that.

“When I made the film The Tower, I focused on computer graphics and the scale of the disaster. This time the film is lighter, more fun, and becomes a disaster film that can more easily connect with the audience,” he said as reported by Newsis some time ago.

The production team prepared the sets in person including more than 20 buildings. According to him, it becomes a basic thing for actors no matter how good the CGI is.
